Just thought I would throw that out there.

It should also be noted that they are a bit messy.

My faith in Gilmore Girls has been fully restored. Are we seeing why I love Jess, people? Maybe now that Rory is coming back, Lorelai can get rid of that neurotic dog. Paul Anka is annoying. And, wow, Logan was too last night. Drunken-Whiner-Logan and Jealous-Idiot-Logan are extremely unattractive. Kirk should totally open a publishing company so Jess can come back permanently and work there and be with Rory and live happily ever after.Or something.

In other TV news, someone on Lost is going to die tonight and I know who it is and boy am I glad because this is my least favorite character on the show. Oh and Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy and Angel and that Firefly show I didn't watch is making a guest appearance on Veronica Mars tonight. Whoo-hoo.*

Plans are in the works for me to get a banana split tomorrow and it looks like all systems are a go. I'm thrilled.

That's all for now. Be safe out there.

(*Note: I do not actually care about Joss Whedon, but on the off chance that a Buffy fan comes to my journal, I want the prospect of watching Veronica Mars to be attractive)

UPDATE: TV, children, small moves, big business and a longing for a banana split [Nov. 7th, 2005|02:48 pm]
Sunday Sometimes
[Current Mood |boredbored]
[Current Music |Brendan Benson: Unfortunate Guy]

Let's start from the beginning...

Mother-in-law got divorced from Father-in-law (most random, by the way) and was living in a large, mostly empty house and seemed super down. We (that is me, the husband and the wee ones) were looking for a way to save up some funds for a down payment on a house all our own. Thus we came to live with Mother-in-law, solving all of our old problems and causing some new ones. See, in the sitcoms, if a family moves in with the in-laws, drama typically ensues. This seemed unlikely in our case (Mother-in-law is more "mother" than "in-law" for me and has been for some time), but when you get two women who are used to things their way, it's almost impossible to come out unscathed. And so, with a few minor issues with household maintenance and some ridiculous misunderstandings, things around here are much, much better. We would make a bad sitcom.

Sister-in-law (who lives here as well) is a different story altogether. We clash... A lot...

That's all I have to say about that...

In addition to changes in living arrangements, there have also been some changes to my TV-watching routine. Certain shows (One Tree Hill, The OC and, dare I say it, Gilmore Girls) have been having lack-luster seasons thus far. OTH and The OC are getting cheesy and boring (cheesy is ok, but boring is a no no) and with Rory and Lorelei not speaking, Gilmore Girls is getting on my nerves. The last (new) episode gave me hope, but if they drag this out any further I may need to track down the writers and beat them senseless. YOU HEAR THAT WB??

Shows that I've added to my routine are: Arrested Development (I came in late on this show, but it really is the funniest thing on TV), My Name is Earl (<3 Jason Lee <3), The Office (love the UK version, but this one is pretty good too) and (saving the best for last) Veronica Mars. This show is so good it needs its own paragraph...

Veronica Mars is about a high school girl whose father is a private detective. Living in this environment, Veronica has picked up a thing or two. While going to school and dealing with all the typical high school BS, Veronica also takes on her fellow classmate's cases (who stole the school mascot, who stole the money at a rich kid's poker game, who stole the geeky girl's dog, etc.) and the cases that her dad doesn’t have time for. But, the big mystery (at least in season 1) is who killed Lily Kane, Veronica's best friend. OK, the premise is retarded but the characters, the writing, the plot lines and (for the most part) the acting are second to none. I say this with all sincerity: Veronica Mars is THE BEST SHOW on television. No question, hands down. I caught a few episodes of season one and thought it was good enough to buy the whole season on DVD. The best $40-something dollars I have ever spent, honestly. I've got two people totally obsessed with this show and I'm going for more. So if anyone reads this journal check out Veronica Mars on DVD and watch the second season on UPN (Wednesdays at 9:00 for most of the country, 12:00 -midnight- on Wednesdays for good ole Jacksonville). If you’re addicted to Lost (and who isn’t!) and this conflicts with that show, tape Veronica Mars. You will not be disappointed, I swear.

OK, back to reality, the kids are super cute and getting cuter by the day. Zeek is a chatty little bug and Isa is just too darn smart. Seriously, the girl is a musical genius. She's taking piano lessons and she's already learned four songs in less than a year which is just ridiculous. She learns by ear and just figures them out. It's insane. She had her first piano recital a couple weeks back and it was great. Zeek is a huge copy cat. He's too young for piano lessons but he tries so hard to be like his sister. He loves to take a bow and climb up and bang on the keys. It's a trip. He's also taken to saying "mm-kay" like the boss from Office Space, which is a really cute party trick.

In other news, I'm getting a car: a 2004 Impala. It's beautiful. That's the good news. The bad news is I'm going back to work. After about 2 years of being a stay-at-home mom, going back to work is huge and scary. I'm just so torn about it. I want to get back out into the real world and socialize with adults, but at the same time I'm so freaked out about putting the kids in daycare. You hear all this crap on the news about perverts and stuff and it's like all I want to do is protect them and I know if I've got them with me at all times, nothing bad will happen to them. But, I guess you have to let go of those fears sometime. For me, the deadline for letting go is early December... Maybe early January... Oh, we'll see...

Finally: I REALLY WANT A BANANA SPLIT! Do ice cream parlors even make those anymore? Are there even ice cream parlors anymore?

As promised... [Jun. 29th, 2005|01:08 pm]

[Current Music |Magazine- Pedro the Lion]

Since April I've read a bunch of books, watched all my favorite TV shows' season finales, seen some terrible movies (Sideways -an unpopular opinion but I don't care. It sucked-), some cute movies (Fever Pitch, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and some great movies (Sin City, Hitchhiker's Guide, Garden State, The Life Aquatic). I've laughed hysterically at the antics of crazy celebrities, played ridiculous amounts of Poppa Zoppa on Pogo, eaten several bowls of cereal, bought Coldplay's new CD and got a nose ring. I've finger painted, dried tears, cleaned poo, given numerous bubble baths (sometimes as a result of the aforementioned poo), made way too many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, read a bunch of children's books out loud and watched more than my fair share of kid-friendly TV shows and DVDs. I had some bad sushi and some good sushi, spent over $80 on a (as in 1) ticket to see Coldplay in Tampa in September, studied up on Scientology and got sufficiently freaked out before heading over to the M&M's website because it's much safer there, cleaned house at least once, got broadband and then downloaded a bunch of music because that's what you do when you get broadband.

All of this was great and I wouldn’t change a thing (apart from the bad sushi, the poo and the wasted 2 hours of my life no thanks to Sideways)

During this time I did not: eat a snickers bar, watch more than 2 episodes of the new reality shows on TV at the moment, go swimming in any body of water other than the bathtub or move out of this cramped apartment.

But, all of this, my friends, is about to change....

And with that, I conclude this update. More to come...

Update [Apr. 6th, 2005|04:01 pm]
Sunday Sometimes
Welcome back to my journal...

The funny smell mentioned in my previous post had to have come from the apartment next door because I didn't find the source, but the smell still vanished. Our theory: Our dining room (where I was smelling the smell) and the next door neighbor's laundry room share a wall. We think that they had some mildew-y clothes or something lying around in their laundry area.

I am getting over a vicious cold that has plagued our household for the past couple of weeks or so. We even had to take Isabelle to the ER on Easter Sunday because of a wicked combination of the cold and croup (and double ear infections, it turned out). We were a pathetic bunch for a while there. But, everything is all cleared up now.

We took the kids to the zoo before the cold hit. It was a lot of fun. I haven’t been to the zoo since high school and I think I enjoyed it as much as Isabelle (maybe more!).

But, that's the past, here's the future...

Tonight on Lost: Claire is going to give birth to the anti-Christ... and hopefully the lifeguard who likes to do it with his step-sister will die!

Major movie plans this weekend (which is Thursday and Friday for us):

Thursday: Going to a Fever Pitch screening with Debbie. I'm not too impressed with how this one looks, but I'll go because it's free and it's something to do. I'm cautiously optimistic about Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore together, but it could easily fall flat.

Friday: Going to *finally* see Sin City with Richard. The more I hear about it, the more I know I'll like it. I know I mentioned earlier that I was going to a screening, but I couldn't get a sitter and Richard couldn't get off work. But, this time, my bases are covered and I will see this film. Oh yes, I will...

-Over and out-

Procrastination and food preparation [Mar. 21st, 2005|07:50 pm]

[Current Mood |workingworking... sort of]
[Current Music |giggly kids and indiscriminate TV chatter]

This just in: I'm supposed to be writing a review of the new releases in the Disney Learning Adventures DVD line but I am totally drained and it's hot in here which is not conducive to writing, at least not for me. To be honest I haven't really watched them yet. They are both about 45 minutes long and I only have an hour until 24 starts so I'm opting to watch them after 24 (something I'm sure my husband will love). The review will have to either wait until either later tonight (burn that midnight oil and what not) or tomorrow morning (more likely). I work well under pressure so I'm not too concerned.

In the kitchen corner: I can't cook. Isabelle requested eggs (hard boiled, the only way she will eat them) and I screwed them up. I screwed up HARD BOILED EGGS. Does anyone else think maybe the homemaker profession may not be for me??

In entertainment news: There is a Sin City screening next week and I am more than thrilled. I swear, the more previews I see, the more excited I get. Hopefully they will show the Domino trailer at that screening too! Weeeee!!

And finally: There is a weird smell coming from this corner of the house. Like... something ate a bunch of cheese and died. Only, there is nothing there, I sniffed around. Perhaps some animal died in the walls, which would surprise me since I doubt there are animals living in our walls. If I cannot locate the culprit, I shall have to call the landlord so he can investigate. He'll love that.

And that's the news for now. Goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

So, this will be my layout for a while. The thing wallpapered to the back there is this:

Click it!

I love playing on Photoshop! This took a little while (couldn't get those sizes right!), but I think it turned out ok.

Oscar night: I'm going for Jamie Fox (who I'm sure will win), Million Dollar Baby (which may win) and any category Eternal Sunshine is nominated in (which probably won't win). Just saw Jake Gyllenhaal hop in to say good luck to Jamie Fox while being interviewed on the red carpet. He shaved his head. Eww.

So, I was bored and procrastinating on work and decided to change my layout. I think it looks ok, given the fact that I wasn't sure what I was doing. Not so computer savvy.

The picture is one of my favorites of my kids. They are so cute.

When I figure out what everything does, I will probably change my layout again. Stay tuned!!
